A few meters from the Campus Brotas, the General Coordinator is located in a central neighborhood of the city. The building houses the institution's Rectory, as well as our Management and Quality Center (NGQ) and our Planning Advisory Board (ASPLAN).&nbsp; In the Coordination's gardens, there is a bronze statue of the late Professor Humberto de Castro Lima, former general coordinator of the FBDC. It is an environment surrounded by nature and historical landmarks of our academic community. Here, our students can contact the Institutional Academic Relationship and Internationalization Center (REAI) and the Research Ethics Committee (CEP). The General Coordination also includes the Distance Learning Nucleus (NEAD), the Educational Technologies Development Center (CEDETE), the Communication and Marketing Nucleus (NUCOM), the Evaluation Committee (CPA) and the Department of Infrastructure (DEPIN).
 In this building are also located the Commercial and People Development, Administrative and Financial, Legal, Communication and Marketing, Institutional Development and Social Impact Business coordinations.

Also on Campus Brotas, students, teachers, employees and the external public have access to a complete library with comfortable facilities and an up-to-date collection. Surrounded by a vast green area, this campus has 20 laboratories, 30 classrooms e 3 auditoriums. The library is also open to the outside community, with comfortable spaces for reading, studying and socializing. The environment has a modern and complete infrastructure, ample parking and social center with cafeteria. The Center for Voiding Disorders in Children (CEDIMI) of Bahiana Starting this March, it began offering home care for patients aged 5 to 17, with remote monitoring via teleconsultation and the use of therapeutic equipment provided by the team. A total of 100 slots are available for this new format, and those interested can schedule their first appointment by calling (71) 98217-0084.
The initiative aims to facilitate access to treatment and reduce the need for frequent travel. In the home-based model, families receive the equipment used in therapy and have access to multidisciplinary support. Among the resources used is sacral neurostimulation, a non-invasive technique that stimulates the nerves responsible for bladder control, promoting the regulation of the micturition reflex. The treatment shows good results, especially when combined with behavioral guidance and clinical follow-up.
According to experts, enuresis should not be seen merely as a phase of childhood, especially when it persists after the age of five, as it can impact a child's self-esteem and social interaction. It is estimated that about 10% of school-aged children still experience episodes of nocturnal enuresis. With the expansion of home care services, CEDIMI seeks to reach more families, including those living in other cities or facing mobility difficulties, encouraging proper diagnosis and treatment.

This free service is intended for patients aged 5 to 17.

Research conducted by Medicine course professor Glícia Abreu, PhD in Medicine and Human Health (Bahiana), guided by the coordinator of the Center for Voiding Disorders in Childhood (CEDIMI/Bahiana), Dr. Ubirajara Barroso, has just instituted a new method for assessing the prevalence of constipation in children. The study, carried out in collaboration with the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), was recently published in the Journal of Pediatric Urology, one of the most important scientific journals in the area of ​​urology, gained notoriety in the Brazilian press, being highlighted by newspapers such as Estadão and O Globo. The research noted that the most common assessment method, Rome IV, had some limitations. It consists of six questions, with two positive answers confirming the presence of constipation. The researchers at Bahiana observed that, although this approach is effective in confirming the diagnosis, it does not allow identifying the severity of the problem. Therefore, the new study adapted and validated the Cleveland Constipation Score (CCS) for pediatric use. Originally developed to assess constipation in adults, the CCS was modified to adapt to the reality of children and adolescents, including linguistic adjustments and the reformulation of certain questions, with alternatives that go beyond “yes” and “no”. According to Ubirajara Barroso, this adaptation of the CCS allows not only the confirmation of the diagnosis, but also the quantification of the severity of constipation, thus enabling the prescription of more effective treatments. Furthermore, the new method eliminates the need for a digital rectal examination, which, in some cases, is required by Rome IV to confirm constipation in children. The study involved the analysis of 100 children and showed that the new method has high agreement with Rome IV. “This indicates that the adapted questionnaire is effective in diagnosing constipation in children, providing consistent results”, explains Glícia Abreu.

Research carried out by CEDIMI researchers gains international prominence

The Childhood Voiding Disorders Center at Bahiana (CEDIMI) reached the milestone of 11 works approved at the Annual Congress of the International Child Continence Society (ICCS) which, this year, takes place at the Salvador Convention Center, from November 16th to 18th. The event is one of the most important academic conferences in the area of ​​childhood voiding disorders in the world. The opening ceremony will be attended by the leader of CEDIMI, prof. Dr. Ubirajara Barroso, professor of the Master's and Doctorate Programs in Medicine and Human Health and Master's in Health Technologies. The event will bring together speakers, researchers, professors and students from different countries, including professors and students who are part of CEDIMI. In addition to being configured as a research group, CEDIMI is an international reference in care, providing free services in the multidisciplinary unit of the Bahiana health, in Brotas. The center's team is multidisciplinary, made up of a pediatric urologist, physiotherapist, nurses, nutritionist and psychologist and has complete urodynamic equipment.

The event will take place in Salvador, in November.

Representing Bahiana, researchers Noel Charlles dos Santos and Eliakim Massuqueto were awarded at the XXXVIII Brazilian Congress of Urology, the third largest congress in the world. The scientific work of researchers at the Center for Urinal Disorders in Childhood Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública (CEDIMI) won the first two places as the best polls of the event. The supervisors of the award-winning productions were Dr. Ubirajara Barroso (CEDIMI coordinator) and Dr. Glícia Abreu (CEDIMI researcher).
Noel Charlles dos Santos, a fourth-year medical student, won first place with the scientific work entitled “Rectal diameter as a predictor of response to treatment with transcutaneous parasacral electrostimulation (TENS) in children with vesico-intestinal dysfunction (VID)”. The researcher highlighted his pleasure in representing CEDIMI at the Congress. “Having this opportunity, both to represent the group and to win an award, is a great happiness. Even more so since the Center is a pioneer in Brazil and one of the main references in the management of voiding disorders in childhood, having as a differential treatments associated with physiotherapy”, explained the researcher when referring to the vast scientific production of CEDIMI.&nbsp;
“The support of Bahiana in all our works, not just this one, it is sensational. I'm from Rondônia, and what I think is that there should be an institution like Bahiana in many other regions of the country”, as the researcher Eliakim Massuqueto, who won the second place for the best work of the Congress with scientific research, described: “Corporoplasty: an anatomical and functional reproduction of the clitoris in patients with sexual differentiation disorder”. Eliakim Massuqueto, who is a master's student at Bahiana, also participated in the survey that won first place in the congress, and also revealed that “this recognition is the result of a lot of collective effort and is in line with what we seek in the survey”. Also participating in the award-winning research were Drs. Maria Luiza Veiga, Maria Thais Calazans, Bruna Venturini, Leydi Casas and Dr. Marcelo Villalta.
