For the first time, Scientific and Cultural Exhibition of Bahiana (MCC), in its 16th edition, offered visitors a space to discuss controversial topics with a focus on youth. The Popular Health Education Tent of Bahiana it functioned throughout the second day of the MCC and was coordinated by young people from the Youth Care Center (CAJU) in partnership with the Candeal Program (Bahiana).

In the space, popular knowledge and its construction were worked on, through conversation circles on topics such as harm reduction, gender and sexuality and racial relations with the participation of the Academic League for Harm Reduction (LARD), Academic League Bahiana of Study in Public Health (LABESC), Academic League of Sexuality and Gender (LASG) and Academic League of Racial Relations (LARR). Young apprentices from the Bahiana and the Brazilian Institute of Ophthalmology and Prevention of Blindness (IBOPC).

Professor Lavínia Boaventura, coordinator of the Candeal Program, explains that the tent's proposal was to promote health education. “Demystifying the role of academia as holder of knowledge and bringing to the population and individuals the dialogue involving themes of popular knowledge is quite valid”.

The tent monitor, João Victor, 4th semester of the Dentistry course, says that the focus of the activity was health promotion through conversation circles. "The exchange of experiences between league participants, visitors and students was important in raising awareness about debating issues that still generate doubts and ignorance among the public."

The professor of Interprofessional Health Practices at the Candeal Program, Marlene Barreto, coordinated a specific intervention on harm reduction for the consumption of psychoactive substances such as alcohol, tobacco and medication. “Initially, we promoted a conversation circle with questions about psychoactive substances, discussing issues related to consumption and how the young person positions himself in the consumer's place”.

Brunelly Lima, 4th semester of the Medicine course, explains that the activities promoted in the tent allowed students to express themselves by talking about their daily lives. “I really enjoyed the work developed and I thought that the students positioned themselves very well in front of the wheels and their own speech is a form of construction and deconstruction”.
