Violence is a roundtable theme

The challenges that the various forms of violence found in society provoke in the psychologist's performance was the central theme of the roundtable that opened the semester of the Psychology course, on August 1st, in the courtyard of the Academic Unit's Classroom Pavilion. Brotas.

The discussion had as speakers the master in anthropology, Prof. Débora Ferraz de Oliveira, who addressed the violence suffered by users and individuals involved with illicit drugs; the master in Culture and Society, Prof. Gilmaro Nogueira, who brought to the academics of Bahiana issues related to violence and sexuality and the doctor in Social Sciences, Prof. Milton Júlio C. Filho who then addressed the violence suffered by offenders inside and outside the prison system.

Despite different focuses, the three defended the importance of these people, victims of violence - physical, social, verbal and symbolic, being heard by psychologists. "It is important that we think about listening to these subjects. Being in crime also causes a lot of suffering. Psychology listens very little to these people. The expression of this suffering is in silence", highlighted Prof. Milton.

"There is a death authorization because the subject is linked to drug trafficking. These are deaths that are not investigated. There is a great responsibility of the media in this authorized death", pointed out Prof. Débora criticizing the press vehicles for the trivialization of the violence that it is now accepted by society without any deeper questioning. "Good crook, he's dead crook. That's how they present these cases."

The roundtable was coordinated by Prof. Tatiana Sinay and had the participation of the coordinator of the Psychology course, Prof. Mônica Daltro, the course's professors and freshmen and veteran students.
