Support group helps fight tobacco addiction

Free initiative open to the entire community of Salvador.

Smokers who wish to quit smoking can count on the support offered, free of charge, by the Anti-Smoker Group, promoted by Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública. The initiative is intended to encourage smokers to quit their addiction, through medication and psychological support, through therapeutic group work.

To enroll, applicants must have a SUS card. The meetings will start in August and will always take place on Mondays, from 14:16 pm to 30:XNUMX pm, at the Teaching-Assistance Outpatient Clinic of BahianaOn Brotas (Av. D. João VI, nº 275, Brotas). Information by phone (071) 3276 8259.

The Anti-Tobacco Group of Bahiana follows the program "Deixando de Fumar Sem Mistério", coordinated by the Ministry of Health, which works through the replacement of nicotine with the use of an adhesive. At Bahiana, the work is headed by and has the support of the Psychology and Occupational Therapy Service of the Psychologist Ambulatory Ubton Nascimento and the pulmonologist Maristela Sestelo Docente-Asistencial at the institution.


Support Groups of Bahiana

The Anti-Tobacco Group is part of the Candeal Program, a university extension action, promoted by Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública. The initiative began in 2006 and works from intersectorial partnerships between the Bahiana, the Municipal Health Department of Salvador, Hospital Roberto Santos, Escola Roberto Santos, Colégio Luiz Viana, IPERBA, neighborhood associations, among others. The actions take place in 27 educational groups installed respectively in the Sanitary District of Brotas and Cabula, where the academic units of the Bahiana.

The Candeal Program, currently curricular in nature, has interdisciplinarity as its pedagogical axis and involves, in its work teams, professors and students from different undergraduate courses - Medicine, Biomedicine, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Dentistry and Nursing who work for through permanent groups, supporting different segments of the population. The idea is to promote quality of life in understanding health and encouraging self-care. The program serves the elderly, children, teenagers, women, mothers, caregivers of people with cancer, smokers, pregnant women, diabetics, hypertensive patients and others who have emerging demands.
