Share

Identifying the knowledge of employees about the composition of cigarettes and the consequences it causes on health was the objective of the workshop “Living without tobacco”, an action promoted by the Viver com Saúde Project that took place on September 24 at the Academic Units Brotas and Kabula. The action also served to sensitize the participants to the importance of preventing the risks and injuries resulting from cigarette consumption.

The event was attended by the occupational physician Dr. Dario Soares, who presented tips on how to quit smoking, the occupational nurse, Tássia Teles, who showed the composition of cigarettes and the epidemiology of cancers caused by its consumption, in addition to showing the high incidence of passive smokers in this statistic.

The workshop "Living without tobacco" was also attended by psychologist Ubton José, who explained to employees how the tobacco control group works, promoted by the Psychology course at Bahiana.

At the end of the lecture, there was a “bingo without tobacco”, in which all employees participated and won as a prize the awareness of the harm that cigarette consumption causes to health. A “I managed to quit smoking” session was also held, which was conducted by the nursing technician Danielle Souza. At the time, former smokers shared personal stories of how and why they stopped smoking, encouraging their colleagues to also give up the habit. The workshop had an immediate positive feedback from smoker employees who signed up for the Tobacco Control Project to try to quit smoking.
