A journey through time, with the right to meet important figures in the history of health in Bahia and classical philosophers such as Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. It was in this climate that the Academy of Medicine of Bahia (AMB) took office, on the night of October 3, in a ceremony held at the Cabula Academic Unit, the director of Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani and the professor of the Medicine course, Dr. Edvaldo Fahel. The laureates now occupy chairs 27 and 12 respectively.

The board of directors was attended by the president of AMB, Dr. Almério de Souza Machado; the director of the Faculty of Medicine of UFBA, Prof. Dr. Lorene Pinto; the counselor of the Regional Council of Medicine of Bahia, Dr. Otávio Marambaia; the president, in Bahia, of the Federal Council of Medicine, Dr. Jessé Brandão; the president of the Brazilian Society of Tropical Medicine, Dr. Mittermayer Galvão; the representative of the State Health Department, Dr. José Valter Santos; the Chairman of the Foundation's Board of Trustees Bahiana for Science Development (FBDC), Dr. Ademário Galvão Spínola; the deputy director of Bahiana, Dr. Enio Maynard and the Executive Director of the FBDC Board of Trustees, Dr. Jacques Saidi Salah.

As tradition governs, each incumbent presented the historical trajectory of the patron and the last occupant of his chair. With sweet words, the new academic, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, led the guests along a path within each one's imagination, taking them to the garden of the first academy in Greece and to an unusual meeting between the last occupant of chair number 27, Dr. Humberto de Castro Lima, former general coordinator of FBDC, professor at Bahiana and founder of the Brazilian Institute of Ophthalmology and Prevention of Blindness, whose hospital today bears his name; its patron, Dr. José Correia Picanço and the Greek philosopher Plato. The unusual dialogue highlighted important actions carried out by each one in the course of their lives, with the right to interventions by one more participant, Aristotle.

Then, the new academic, Dr. Edvaldo Fahel, told in emotional words a little about the life and work of the last occupant of chair number 12, Dr. Mario Augusto Jorge de Castro Lima and the patron of this place at the Academy, Prof. Dr. Aristides Pereira Maltez, founder and founder of the League Bahiana against Cancer.

Distinguished personalities from the medical area in Bahia and Brazil were present, as well as academics and professors from Bahiana Dr. Bernardo Galvão, Dr. Luis Erlon Rodrigues, from the former director of Bahiana, Dr. Geraldo Leite, other members of the Academy of Medicine of Bahia, politicians, coordinators of undergraduate and graduate courses, professors, students, managers and employees.
