III Researchers Forum

Professors, researchers, undergraduate and graduate students of the Bahiana were gathered on the morning of September 26, at the Cabula Academic Unit to participate in the III Researchers Forum of Bahiana. The opening table was attended by the director of Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani; the coordinator of Postgraduate Studies in Research and Extension, Dr. Kátia Nunes Sá; the coordinator of the postgraduate program in Dentistry, Dr. Urbino Tunes; the coordinator of the Medicine and Human Health program, Dr. Ana Marice Ladeia and the coordinator of Health Technologies, Dr. Marcos Almeida.

The work began with the presentation by Dr. Kátia Nunes Sá of the results obtained in recent years by the Graduate, Research and Extension Program of the institution. Then, the coordinators of the research lines presented a brief overview of how each one has been developing.

The program also included the lecture "The Importance of Research in IES", given by Prof. Dr. Jailson Bittencourt de Andrade, from the Institute of Chemistry at UFBA. A CNPq researcher since 1988, Bittencourt was dean of Research and Graduate Studies at UFBA (1998 to 2002) and is currently a member of the Editorial Board of Microchemical Journal, from the Annals of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and coordinator of the National Institute of Science and Technology for Energy and Environment (INCT E&A).

In his explanation, the researcher spoke about the current context of scientific research in Brazil and in the world, elucidated the paths for submitting research to funding entities and recalled important points that can contribute to a better position of the researcher vis-à-vis funding institutions.


Tributes
For his great contribution to health research in Bahia and Brazil, Prof. Dr. Bernardo Galvão received a special tribute from Bahiana. “This institution has been growing a lot and has shown interest in developing the health area in Bahia and Brazil. So I confirm my institutional commitment to Bahiana"He said.

As in previous years, the third edition of the Forum also granted the Humberto Castro Lima Award to the most outstanding researcher in contributing to the sciences within the institution. The awarded one was the Professor of the Dentistry Course, Érica Del Peloso Ribeiro. Surprised, she thanked the participants of her research group and the other professors. “We are part of a cohesive team that knows what it wants and where it wants to go. This award comes at an important moment in my life”, declared the researcher, recognizing the award as a stimulus to work.

Another highlight of the Forum was the participation of Dr. Roberto Santos, who was present at the meeting to autograph the second issue of the Brazilian Journal of Medicine and Human Health. he congratulated the Bahiana “for the extraordinary progress it has achieved. Just look physically, how it has been growing from a scientific point of view and how it is on the way to becoming a university”, he declared.

The Forum also included the meeting of research groups from the Bahiana followed by a plenary with the results of group meetings and construction of the planning proposal for the research in 2014. In the afternoon, it was the turn of the XI Jornada de PIBIC – Institutional Program for Scientific Initiation Scholarships, with the presentation of research papers developed by scholarship holders 2012/2013.
