Dentistry Coordinator will receive one of the highest scientific awards in Brazil

On October 18, Prof. Dr. Urbino Tunes, coordinator of the Dentistry course at Bahiana, will receive, in a solemn session at the Plenary of the City Council of São Paulo, the Medal and the Diploma of Honor to Professional Merit doctor Luiz Cesar Pannain.

The honor was created in 1960 by the São Paulo State Odontologists' Union (SOESP) and is awarded annually. Considered one of the greatest scientific awards in Brazil, it is a dental science award that extols human value. Candidates are chosen based on a curricular analysis, based on scientific merits, being granted by a collegiate of 15 entities of Brazilian Dentistry.

With this award, Prof. Dr. Urbino Tunes becomes an integral part of the select group of professionals in Brazilian Dentistry who managed to obtain the concession of this relevant distinction.

Learn a little about the trajectory of Prof. Dr. Urbino Tunes

- 43 years of active professional practice in the areas of teaching, research and clinic specializing in periodontics;

- Professional academic training with three specializations, including one abroad, master's and doctorate;

- Active performance in academic management, having been head of department and director of the Faculty of Dentistry, Federal University of Bahia; Coordinator of the Undergraduate and Master's Degree Course in Dentistry at Bahiana, where he also chairs the CPA and integrates the BSC. Acting in several collegiate and support bodies, in several commissions, higher education bodies and in the HEIs where he worked and still works;

- Active role in professional management, having chaired the Brazilian Association of Dentistry (ABO) - Bahia Section on two occasions, vice president of ABO-Nacional, member of the Regional Council of Dentistry, vice president of the Brazilian Society of Periodontology (SOBRAPE ) and various other professional representation positions;

- President of several national congresses of Dentistry and Periodontics;

- Author of books, chapters and scientific articles, being responsible for the training of several specialists in the field of professional practice.
