USP Innovation 2013 Olympics

The result of a partnership between the USP Innovation Agency and the USP Research Dean, the USP Innovation 2013 Olympics are open until September 18 and aim to stimulate creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. Undergraduates, graduate students, professors, researchers and specialized employees of higher education institutions can apply.

This year, the Olympics were divided into three categories: innovative ideas, proof of concept and fledgling company.

The event is in its third edition. The first was held in 2008 and had the participation of 456 registered projects, of which 21 were selected as finalists. The second, which took place in 2011, was awarded with the registration of 641 projects. This year, the Olympics have the support of the Financier of Studies and Projects (FINEP) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The categories are organized as follows:

CATEGORY I - INNOVATIVE IDEAS

Aimed at innovative, structured and feasible ideas/concepts.

Participating audience: students, professors and employees of the University of São Paulo.

Evaluation and Classification: The projects will be evaluated and will receive scores from zero to ten by at least three evaluators appointed by the coordination of the Olympics. The classification will be carried out from the highest to the lowest, by the average score, according to the established criteria.


CATEGORY II - PROOF OF CONCEPT

Aimed at innovative scientific research projects that are structured, feasible and with potential for economic and/or social application.

Participating public: students, professors and employees of universities, institutes and research centers in the State of São Paulo.

Evaluation and Classification: The projects will be evaluated and will receive scores from zero to ten by at least three evaluators appointed by the coordination of the Olympics. The classification will be carried out from the highest to the lowest, by the average score, according to the established criteria.


CATEGORY III - RISING COMPANY

Aimed at structured and feasible businesses based on grounded scientific research, innovative and with a strong social appeal.

Participating public: companies legally incorporated in Brazil with up to three years of foundation.

Evaluation and Classification: The projects will be evaluated and will receive scores from zero to ten by at least three evaluators appointed by the coordination of the Olympics. The classification will be carried out from the highest to the lowest, by the average score, according to the established criteria.
