Get ready: the IX Pedagogical Forum of Bahiana is coming!

Exchange experiences and knowledge about teaching practice. This is the main objective of the IX Pedagogical Forum of Bahiana which takes place on August 16th and 17th, at the Convention Center of the Bahiana, at the Cabula Academic Unit, with the participation of professors from different courses and educational institutions. This year, the meeting is highlighted by the guest speaker, Prof. Dr. Léa das Graças Camargos Anastasiou. Professor Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, director of the Bahiana  and Prof. Dr. Marta Menezes, professor of the Medicine course, coordinator of the Telemedicine and Telehealth Center at Bahiana (NUTESB) and the Master of Health Technologies.

Léa Anastasiou is one of the most important researchers and promoters of new pedagogical processes throughout Brazil. Author of books on contemporary pedagogy and pedagogical consultant for several higher education institutions across the country, she will bring the workshop “Assessment by Competence” to the participants of the 9th edition of the Forum.

The workshop will discuss competency concepts; skills worked in the curriculum of courses; definition of actions by teachers and students to build skills and ways of monitoring or evaluating them. The program will also include the construction of criteria to monitor the cognitive, procedural and attitudinal determinants of competence and evaluation of instruments already used in the courses, in addition to discussing the concepts of metacognition, processes and products.

Another highlight will be the workshop "Which teacher do we want to be?", which will be taught by Prof. Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Solian. The theme was highlighted at the 50th Brazilian Congress of Medical Education (COBEM), held last year, in São Paulo. On the occasion, Dr. Maria Luisa shared the table with Prof. Dr. Patrícia Tempski, from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (USP), a researcher and mentor in the field of medical education and with the educator Ana Maria Freire, widow of the educator Prof. Paulo Freire.

Always looking for innovations in teaching-learning methods, Prof. Dr. Marta Menezes will hold a workshop on Active Methodologies, with emphasis on Team Based Learning (TBL), a teaching method based on procedures for the development of study teams , with the purpose of increasing the quality of student learning. The technique also enhances problem solving skills, streamlines the class and promotes teamwork, valuing discussion and the students' reflective and critical capacity.


Pedagogical Forum of Bahiana - Historic

A Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública it is an institution concerned with contributing to the construction of a more just and humane society. Thus, the education of people is understood by the institution's philosophy as a continuous process in which all members of the academic community are included. Since 2000, the School has been developing strategic actions to promote the continued training of its faculty. In 2010, the Institutional Teacher Development Program (PROIDD), with the mission of qualifying teachers and promoting opportunities for the construction of knowledge.

This effort for the continuous appreciation and training of its faculty was recognized nationally. Last year, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani joined the fiscal council of the Brazilian Association of Medical Education (ABEM), along with representatives of state and federal public universities in other states.
