Bahiana received, on the 5th of June, a special visitor. Children and adolescents aged 2 to 13 years, members of the Guerreiros da Paz Group, were at the Academic Unit Brotas, where they were able to participate in a series of recreational and educational activities. The Guerreiro da Paz Group is a non-governmental institution that welcomes needy children in the opposite shift to school to work with school reinforcement, ethics and education activities.

The visit was coordinated by the professor of the Physiotherapy course, Henrique Aragão, through a partnership with the Candeal Program, coordinated by the Psychology professor, Maria Antonieta Araújo and with the Physiotherapy Clinic, whose responsible manager, Prof. Selena Dubois.

During the visit, the group of visitors was split in two. Children aged from 2 to 6 years went to the Physiotherapy Clinic, where they were welcomed by students from the curricular internship who performed playful activities. In turn, the group aged from 7 to 13 years old went to one of the classrooms, where they watched a movie, accompanied by students from the Dentistry and Biomedicine courses.

Parents and caregivers of children and adolescents also participated in a special program that included a first aid activity taught by students from the Medicine course and a class on oral health by students from the Dentistry course, which also included the preparation of a report investigation of their children's oral health.

"The idea is that children who had problems in the oral health area can be referred in the second semester to the School Clinic in Dentistry for treatment. A project to install a brushodrome should also be developed, with follow-up signed with a nutritionist (for guide the nutritional health of these children and improve oral health) and educational activities offered by students of the Candeal Program", explains Prof. Henry Aragon.

At the end, all the children, as well as the parents and caregivers, were taken to a classroom where a small documentary was shown about some activities carried out by the students of the Bahiana, through the Candeal Program, with the children of Grupo Guerreiro da Paz, in the first semester of 2013.
