X Parish Health Fair of Brotas

The participation of the Teaching-Assistance Clinic of the Bahiana at the X Health Fair of the Parish of Brotas It was a success once again. Held through a partnership between the parish and ADAB, the event took place last Saturday at the Monsenhor Edmilson Community Center of Nossa Senhora de Brotas and was responsible for the director of the clinic and coordinator of the Medicine course, Dr. Eliana de Paula and the parish administrator, Mr. Paulo Simone.

ADAB coordinated several activities, such as an Education for Health action that addressed topics such as high blood pressure, diabetes, healthy eating, etc. and was coordinated by Prof. Maria Cristina Gomes de Santana, together with students from the 1st semester of Medicine and with the professors Sara Rocha and Suzana Vasconcelos.

The ADAB Nursing coordinator, Nurse Ana Paula Monteiro and the Biomedicine professor, Sidney Santana, coordinated the Prevention and Control Measures activity, offering visitors to the fair the calculation of Body Mass Index (BMI), measurement of blood pressure , measurement of capillary blood glucose and hepatitis C test.

Physiotherapy activities were offered to the elderly, coordinated by the manager of the ADAB Physiotherapy Clinic (Cafis), Selena Dubois and by Prof. Henrique Aragão, together with students from the course.

Residents of the Institute of Perinatology of Bahia (IPERBA) collected vaginal cytology slides that will later be analyzed at the ADAB.

The fair also had the participation of Hospital Humberto Castro Lima, which offered visual acuity tests, carried out by its residents. Hemoba was also present with the collection of blood donations and SESI offered activities to prevent tooth decay, in addition to haircuts.

The event also counted with the participation of the health surveillance and with the SAMU that developed lectures for the prevention of accidents.

A total of 441 people were served. Check the numbers:

- 385 people had their body mass index calculated. Most were overweight;
- 385 measured their blood pressure, 33% had higher than expected blood pressure levels;
- 385 measured capillary blood glucose, 39 of them with levels that signaled changes in glucose metabolism, being referred to a better investigation to confirm or not diabetes;
- of those who tested for hepatitis C, two were positive;
- in the physiotherapy clinic, 26 physiotherapeutic sessions and 30 sessions focused on preventing falls in the elderly, with 30 specific balance tests performed, followed by guidelines.
