The Psychopedagogical Care Center (NAPP) and the Psychology course Bahiana, in partnership with CAPS Aristides Novis brought together students and teachers from Bahiana, on the 17th of May, in the Pátio do Pavilion III of the Academic Unit Brotas, to participate in a series of debates on mental health.

Mental Health: Daily Madness and Sickness was the name of the meeting that was attended by the general director of Bahiana, Prof. Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, and had as the theme of the opening lecture "Compulsory hospitalization of crack users: stigma and trivialization of mental health", with the words of the psychiatrist of the Center for Studies and Therapy of Drug Abuse (CETAD/UFBA) and professor (UFBA and Bahiana), Prof. Dr. Ezra Cabus Moreira. The program, which lasted until the afternoon, included round tables, a cinema debate and a dance workshop.

Held annually, the event aims to promote knowledge and develop critical views on contemporary issues related to mental health. "It's a time for discussion. It's a time when we give space to listen, to speak, to give voice to users, family members, professionals and students. It is from the articulation of these various knowledges that we will be able to start thinking, increasingly, in the improvement of the mental health segment in Salvador", said the professor of the Psychology course, Rafael Leite, who, alongside Prof. Wagner Ferraz, coordinated the event.

"This year, the event has a very intriguing name, which provokes. I was thinking what daily madness and struggles we all have. We have individual and collective madness. These daily "madnesses" always provoke us, make us leave the comfortable place where we are For us, as an institution, this event is very important and, therefore, we have supported, over the years, its realization", declared Dr. Maria Luisa, who is also a psychiatrist and psychodramatist.

Prof. Rafael Leite also pointed out the importance of the event - which focuses on reflection - for the improvement of the student's critical gaze. "We know that the view we give to this area is somewhat neglected by public policies. So, the more we manage to improve the critical view of students and professionals in the area on this topic, I think the better the mental health area will become and the Bahiana enters as one of the devices that come to foster this discussion".
