The practice of Occupational Therapy in the search for independence through movement

The growing interest of recent graduates in professional improvement, through continuing education, adds to the shortage in the market of occupational therapists trained for clinical practice in specialized services. The courses offered to these professionals are commonly characterized as theoretical-practical or just theoretical.

Offering this audience the possibility of clinical practice, with guidance from an interdisciplinary team, allows for the strengthening of their practices as occupational therapists, as well as the improvement of specific techniques and procedures. We also meet the still needy demand for occupational therapists in the city of Salvador.

Objectives
Enable the expansion of experience in clinical practice; to promote a space for interdisciplinary reflection on clinical practice and to improve techniques and procedures.

Program content
Approach to Occupational Therapy in patients with movement disorders.

Movement control: Motor processing; individual factors that restrict movement; activity restrictions in relation to movement; environmental restrictions to movement.

Cognitive Changes and Solutions: Attention; Sense Perception; memory; body image; creativity; behavior.
Occupational performance assessment.

Timely interventions for the initial phase: positioning and postural transfers, mobility (bed and wheelchair), facilitation of walking, stimulation of ADLs and communication.

Normalization of postural tone and orientation for selective economic movement.

Recovery of balance reactions in sitting and standing posture.

Recovery of functional gait, use of auxiliary devices for locomotion.

Home assessment and suitability.

Motor control of the upper limb.

Shoulder problems: subluxation, painful shoulder, shoulder-hand syndrome.

Recovery of manual activity and minimization of associated upper limb and hand reactions.

Pusher Syndrome.
