Teachers involved in the Health Education Program of Bahiana (Candeal Program), were together, last Saturday (16), at the Academic Unit Brotas, to participate in an in-depth workshop coordinated by the psychodrama therapist, Georges Curi Salim.

“The Candeal program is completing seven years and, for this reason, it has a certain maturity. The first seven years were to establish the program. We started in Candeal, expanded to Cabula. A lot of work has been done. At the beginning, we had no idea that the process was going to develop in this way”, explains the professor of the Psychology course, Ubton Nascimento.

“Just as we see at graduation, with the Problem-Based Learning methodology, this program also develops an active teaching methodology. Here, we have the real problem. The student is faced with the problem and creates strategies to solve this problem”, emphasizes the professor of the Nursing course, Cláudia Santana.

Both professors agree with the interdisciplinary nature of the Candeal Program, which contributes a lot to the education of health students, in view of the guidelines of the Unified Health System (SUS). “All the work that SUS is doing today is according to the World Health Organization. Today, we prioritize health promotion and prevention, understanding health as quality of life. And we here at Bahiana we are more than aligned with that”.

The teachers also highlighted, as a result of the work of seven years, the creation of a research center for the Candeal Program, which has the Health Education process as a line. “We will be able to research the performance of teachers; how students place themselves in this program; how the community sees this project, among other things about the program”, declares Prof. Ubton also emphasizing that the Candeal Program has also grown at the institutional level and is now being developed in partnership with the University of the State of Bahia (Uneb).
