The wise words of the ex-governor of Bahia, ex-minister of health and doctor, Prof. Dr. Roberto Santos, were the highlight of the launch of the Master's and Doctoral Programs in Medicine and Human Health and Academic Master's in Health Technologies 2013 at Bahiana which took place on the morning of last Friday, March 1st, at the Cabula Academic Unit. The initiative was promoted by the Postgraduate, Research and Extension program at Bahiana.

In his class, Professor Roberto Santos narrated a little about the history and development of the medical field and scientific and technological research in Brazil. On the occasion, he also congratulated the direction of Bahiana for the beauty and exuberance of the Cabula Academic Unit, which I did not know until then. In his conversation with the public, the speaker also highlighted the importance of encouraging research in Brazil and, mainly, in Bahia.

The opening director table was attended by the director of Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, Coordinator of Postgraduate Studies, Research and Extension at Bahiana, Prof. Dr. Kátia Sá and the coordinators of the institution's graduate programs, Dr. Bernardo Galvão, Dr. Marcos Almeida, Dr. Carlos Alfredo Macílio and Dr. Ana Marice Ladeia.

During the opening, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani introduced the institution to new students, highlighting the graduate program and its lines and research groups, as well as the novelties in the application of technology in education, with the example of participation of the School in the Telemedicine and Telehealth University Network (RUTE) and the creation of the Telemedicine and Telehealth Center of Bahiana (Nutesb).

OptPortal Sage
Among the news in technology applied to education announced by the director of Bahiana, the granting of use of the system was highlighted OptPortal Sage which allows the processing of images in 4K ultra definition (image optimization four times greater than full-HD) with the possibility of interactivity for users in different locations. To grant the benefit, the National Research Network, linked to the Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT), launched, in 2012, a national public notice in which projects that best use the technology should be registered.

According to the Postgraduate, Research and Extension coordinator at Bahiana, Dr. Kátia Sá, “the projects needed to be registered jointly by two institutions. Twelve projects were then enrolled, but only two were awarded, one of which was authored by Bahiana, with the Hospital Santa Izabel as a partner”. The tool will allow the video transmission, for educational purposes, of clinical sessions and surgeries directly from the hospital to the Bahiana and vice versa. The other project contemplated is authored by the Universidade Federal Fluminense in partnership with the Aeronautics.

Scientific magazines
The morning was also marked by the launch of the Scientific Journals of Bahiana in the model Open Journal which was presented by the developer, Rodrigo Meireles. According to Dr. Katia Sá, one of the main advantages of the model is access to content in just three clicks.

Each publication was presented by its respective editor-in-chief. THE Journal of Physiotherapy Research, publication that is in the fourth volume and with 36 articles published, was presented by its editor-in-chief, Prof. Kátia Sá. According to her, there is already a demand for authors linked to teaching and research institutions in other states for the publication of new scientific articles.

A Brazilian Journal of Medicine and Human Health, presented by Prof. Ana Marice Ladeia, it is a publication entirely in English, with its first volume in Open Journal, with four articles, two case studies and an experimental study.
