Bahiana now it's RUTH

Last Friday morning (15), the Bahiana became part of a select group of universities, schools and health units in Brazil, now having its own Telemedicine and Telehealth Center. Together with the School's nucleus, the centers of the University Hospital of Maringá (HUM), the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics Jamil Haddad (INTO - RJ), the Heart Institute (INCOR), the Hospital das Clínicas of the University were also inaugurated. São Paulo (USP) and the Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies (HRAC – Centrinho), also at USP.

The ceremony was held via videoconference from the INCOR amphitheater and was attended by the Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, and the Secretary of the Department of Labor Management and Health Education of the Ministry of Health, Mozart Sales.

"We already participated in actions of the University Telemedicine Network (RUTE), through the SIGs (Interest Groups), but with this nucleus, our possibilities are almost unlimited, with regard to telemedicine and telehealth actions", declared the coordinator of the Telemedicine and Telehealth Center Bahiana (NUTESB), Prof. Dr. Marta Menezes.

The coordinator explained that the acceptance given to the Bahiana by RUTE was due to the presentation of a project in telemedicine and telehealth that will integrate the Emergency Care Unit that works in Complexo Vida Plena with the Teaching-Care Clinic of Bahiana (ADAB). In this way, doctors who are working in the care of patients in the complex can carry out teleconsultations to specialists who work at the ADAB.

In addition to the technological advances that can be enjoyed by the institution, Dr. Marta highlights that being a Telemedicine and Telehealth Center is also a recognition for the quality and excellence of Bahiana as a teaching and research institution.

The director of Management of the Own Network (DGRP) of the State Health Secretariat, Dr. Paulo Barbosa, then representing the secretary Jorge Solla, the president of the FBDC Board of Trustees, attended the ceremony in the videoconference room of CEDETE, Dr. Ademário Spínola, the Postgraduate, Research and Extension coordinator at Bahiana, Dr. Kátia Sá, the coordinator of the Medicine course and director of the ADAB, Dr. Eliana de Paula, the manager of CEDETE and professor of the Medicine course, Prof. Antonio Carlos Costa, the coordinator of the Occupational Therapy course, Ana Joaquina Mariani Passos, the Professor of the Physiotherapy course, Patrícia Alcântara and the director of Teaching and Research at Hospital Santa Isabel, Dr. Gilson Feitosa.
