Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, director of Bahiana, became a member, since the last edition of the Brazilian Congress on Medical Education (COBEM), the fiscal council of the Brazilian Association of Medical Education (ABEM), together with representatives of state and federal public universities from other states. Their participation, through an invitation made by the association's management, is the result of the work carried out by the Bahiana for the development of Brazilian medical education.

ABEM, a nationwide association, aims to promote improvements in Brazilian medical education and influence public education and health policies, promoting its development through the training of physicians capable of meeting the population's health needs, contributing to strengthening the Unified Health System and for a fairer and more egalitarian society.

The director highlights as one of the points that motivated the invitation to the close and long relationship that the Bahiana have with ABEM. The School was the organizer of the Brazilian Congress of Medical Education (COBEM) in 2008, in addition to being always present in the congress editions with the participation of professors, coordinators, pedagogues and students in works and discussions.

In 2012, during the 50th COBEM, Dr. Maria Luisa Soliani presented the experiences carried out at the Bahiana during the Forum on Pedagogy in Health: Successful Experiences, alongside Dr. Madalena Patrício, president of the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE), and pedagogues Cristiane Peres, from the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto (FMRP - USP), and Léa Anastasiou, consultant and professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). Within the program of the congress, he also participated in the Symposium “Which teacher does the medical school need? Transformative education”, together with Dr. Patrícia Tempski, professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP) and educator Ana Maria Freire.

The participation of Bahiana in ABEM's Supervisory Board is "a recognition for the work that the School performs in medical education with important advances, such as the implementation of new curricular guidelines established by the MEC that prioritize the interdisciplinary training of medical professionals and have the student as the center of education and learning”, declares Dr. Maria Luisa.

Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani and professors at Bahiana they have also contributed articles in the area of education and health.
