Isle of Tide Health Fair

Another edition of the Ilha de Maré Health Fair took place on October 19, in Botelho. The action was promoted by Bahiana in partnership with the Family Health Unit of Ilha de Maré. The event was held as part of the interdisciplinary activities organized by the disciplines Ecology and Health, Community Health II and Clinical Microbiology of the Biomedicine course and aimed to promote the development of assistance actions for the local population.

45 students and 3 professors from the Biomedicine course took part in the activities, as well as a dentist, two nutrition students, a nurse and representatives of the Department of Health and Community Leadership.

The group promoted Prevention and Health Promotion actions such as blood pressure measurements, capillary blood glucose and anthropometric data surveys to assess the risk of diabetes mellitus, in addition to parasitological tests, lectures on breast cancer prevention and nutritional guidance for adult patients. There were also sections of theatre, games and games for children involving digital inclusion and introduction to research, with the distribution of gifts and sweets.

According to professors Edson Félix and Sidney Santana, from the Biomedicine course at Bahiana, a new Health Fair is already being planned for next year in another location on the island, to be chosen by the organizing partners and the invitation to participate in other courses of the Bahiana.
