Celebrate knowledge. In this spirit, professors, students, researchers and guests participated in the II Researchers Forum of Bahiana which took place on September 27, at the Cabula Academic Unit, in parallel to the first day of the XII Scientific and Cultural Exhibition of Bahiana.

The opening of the Forum was attended by the director of Bahiana, Prof. Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, State Secretary of Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Paulo Câmara, from the Postgraduate, Research and Extension coordinator at Bahiana, Dr. Kátia Nunes Sá and the Pro-Rector of Research, Teaching and Extension at UNEB, Dr. José Cláudio Rocha. Together, the authorities present participated in the opening table, initiating the Forum's activities.

During the Forum, the Humberto de Castro Lima Prize was awarded to Prof. Dr. Luiz Cláudio Lemos, elected best researcher of the year 2011. The award aims to recognize the work of researchers at the Bahiana, encouraging them to continue contributing to the qualified training of health professionals, in accordance with institutional values.

“This Forum is a very special event for our School, which was born solely focused on teaching and, over the 60 years of its history, had its objective expanded, starting to also encourage the path of research. The School did not have its path focused on research, until it was developed in recent years, during the administration of Prof. Humberto de Castro Lima”, commented Dr. Maria Luisa.

In his speech, the secretary Prof. Paulo Câmara highlighted important achievements of his portfolio in the executive management of the State, such as the Technological Park, an innovative initiative that places Bahia in a prominent position in the field of scientific research development focused on the production of consumer goods related to health, such as drugs, vaccines and diagnostic kits, lines that will be developed by the Bahiana, which is also part of the project, along with other public universities, laboratories and industries.

“Our entry into the Technological Park showed that we are on the right path. The development of applied science is also our concern. It is the role of a higher education institution to make this connection between the government and health, in addition to also joining forces with industries, as they are the ones who will increase the distribution of the product of our work”, comments Dr. Kátia Sá.
