On September 20, 21 and 22, representatives of Research Ethics Committees from all over Brazil gathered in São Paulo for an extraordinary meeting called by the Ministry of Health. With the participation of more than 500 representatives, the event aimed to the revision of Resolution 196/96 that regulates the ethical analysis of research protocols involving human beings throughout the national territory.

At the time, the Research Ethics Committee of the Bahiana was represented by its coordinator, professor Roseny Ferreira, also coordinator of the Physiotherapy course, who had the opportunity to participate in the vote to change the items in the document in question. Requests for changes approved at the meeting will follow for consideration by the National Health Council of the Ministry of Health.

"Our participation was through an express invitation from the Ministry as a way of acknowledging the work we are doing", says Prof. Roseny Ferreira. In parallel to the plenary, there was also the in-person guidance on the use of the Brazil Platform, which today has become the only means of submitting research protocols for bioethical consideration by the CEP-CONEP system, where everyone could clarify doubts and propose adjustments to speed up the assessment and review of protocols.
