On the morning of last Monday, September 17, the Parish of the Community of Rua Amazonas, in Cabula, was transformed into a solidarity HQ. Beans, rice, pasta and other supplies were packed into kits, along with men's and women's clothing and toys to be donated to 30 families of local residents.

The campaign was the result of the action Bahiana Cidadã, another social responsibility initiative of our School that aims to integrate the academic community, through activities that promote health education and the well-being of society. During the months of July, August and September, teachers, students and employees donated non-perishable food, clothing, toys and books to the School's Academic Units.

Delivery
To select the benefited families, the community mobilizer, D. Lourdes Soares Brandão, says that the criteria adopted were the material conditions in which the residents live. “We choose according to the needs of each family, prioritizing those who pay rent, have children and are unemployed”, he explains.

“Today we live in a world where we must only discard what is no longer used. The donations made by our students, professors and employees are of things that are in good condition and can be used, they were made from the heart”, said the coordinator of the Candeal Program, Prof. Maria Antonieta Araújo, responsible for the action Bahiana Citizen. The work also had the support of the professor of the Dentistry course, Ana Carla Robatto Nunes.

Health Fair
On August 30, the group of students who are part of the Candeal Program, this semester, participated in the Community Health Fair on Rua Amazonas, marking the first meeting between students and residents. The event takes place once every semester and aims to raise awareness in the community about self-care, in addition to leading to closer ties between this group of residents and the Bahiana for greater adherence to the program and its working groups.

"In partnership with Fiocruz, we also have the participation of the Science on the Road Project, coordinated by the researcher, professor Marcos André Vannier dos Santos, who took the project's bus, with equipment and teaching materials on parasites and information on the basic principles of hygiene", complements the program coordinator, Prof. Maria Antonieta Araújo. "At the fair, we managed to register 16 people for the group of mobilizers - future multipliers of healthy practices in the community, 24 teenagers and many referrals to the other groups", he adds.

During the fair, oral hygiene kits were also distributed to the children, with demonstration through material provided by the Teaching-Assistance Clinic of the Bahiana; pressure measurement; of BMI and blood glucose test, with a study of the population at risk for diabetes, carried out by the students. Several health actions were carried out among young people, adolescents and children, with games and group work, which motivated the enrollment of many of them in the Candeal Program. For your participation, the Bahiana it had the support of the Amazonas de Baixo Street Association (AMAB), the Pastoral da Criança and residents.
