Tribute to Prof. Humberto de Castro Lima

On July 27th, the Brazilian Society of Contact Lenses, Cornea and Refractometry (SOBLEC) will perform a posthumous tribute to Prof.Dr. Humberto de Castro Lima, for his achievements in favor of Brazilian eye health.

On the occasion, Prof. Maria Luisa Soliani will receive the SOBLEC Commendation for the relevant services rendered to society by the dear doctor and master.

Bahiana invites all its students, professors and collaborators to participate in the ceremony that honors this brilliant leader in the history of our School and of Brazilian Ophthalmology.

Humberto de Castro Lima was born on October 3, 1925, in Salvador, son of Cesar de Castro Lima and Leonor Damásio de Castro Lima, and died on July 01, 2008.

During his career, he was a Doctor of Medicine, Free Lecturer, Clinical Assistant at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and Full Professor of Ophthalmology at Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública.

Creator, founder and director of the Brazilian Institute of Ophthalmology and Prevention of Blindness (IBOPC), Honorable President and General Coordinator of the Foundation Bahiana for Science Development, he served with idealism and tenacity the noblest aspirations of the Bahian community, achieving national and international recognition for everything he was and for everything he did as a doctor, teacher, citizen and educator.
