Psychologists, Psychology students, health professionals and people with an interest in mental health participated in the lecture "Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress", which took place at the Academic Unit Brotas, on the night of the 16th of July.

The meeting had as a speaker the scientist and creator of Trauma & Tension Releasing Exercises (TRE), in Portuguese Trauma Release Work, a technique that cures, in a few sessions, the post-traumatic stress syndrome commonly manifested in victims of catastrophes natural, wars and situations of violence and/or extreme stress.

Berceli said his work with the TRE was driven by the need to treat as many people as possible in a short time, overcoming barriers such as language and culture. From that moment on, he observed people's instinctive defense behavior and how the human body reacts in times of danger. "In Lebanon, we were in a building close to bombings. We sat on benches and put the children present on our laps. I then realized that they were trembling as the bombs exploded. Meanwhile, the adults kept themselves under control."

Berceli says that, at that moment, he realized how the tremor, in times of danger, manifests itself in contrast to the fear that strains the body, in traumatic situations. According to him, the tremor, the basis of his treatment, releases the points of tension in the body and helps in the treatment and healing of trauma. Learn more

"After I made this discovery, I went out into the world, getting in touch with people, applying this technique, often with hundreds of people at once," says David Berceli. Today, he visits 18 countries a year. In Brazil, he has already held workshops in Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, Fortaleza and Recife. In Salvador, on the 17th and 18th, it held a workshop resulting from a partnership between Libertas Consultoria, Training and Clinic-School, Espaço PSi and Bahiana.

On the occasion, Berceli performed a combination of theory and practice, so that participants could learn the technique, under his supervision, being able to use them in times of intense stress. "They won't be able to apply this to other people, but they will be able to benefit from ERT in times of stress. Just doing the exercises between two and three times a week to feel a substantial improvement", explains David, noting that the duration of the " self-treatment" will depend on each person's history.
