Interdisciplinarity in the training of health professionals was the focus of the discussion of the SIG Medical Education videoconference, held this Monday morning, May 28, at CEDETE. THE Bahiana, represented by the coordinator of the Medicine course, Prof. Dr. Marta Menezes, was the presenter of this edition, together with the State University of Rio de Janeiro, whose work was presented by professors Márcia Mendes and Daniela Sobrino.

In her presentation, Prof. Marta spoke about the interdisciplinary work that has been built in the undergraduate courses at Bahiana, from the beginning, with the Formative Selection Process, and also through disciplines that are taken together by students from different courses.

She also pointed out some concepts established by international entities, such as the World Health Organization, and national ones, such as the National Forum for Education of Professions in the Health Area (Finepas), from which she raised questions and challenges to be conquered so that the education reaches the inter-professional character. “We are telling each student what 'their piece' is, recognizing the value of the other, but without losing the professional identity”, he explained.

According to Prof. Marta, this is a way to better prepare students for an interdisciplinary work also in the residency, a theme that was developed by the teachers at UERJ. Professors Márcia Mendes and Daniela Sobrino related the experience of their institution with the PROSEF of Bahiana, citing as examples the reception given to residents at the beginning of the course, in addition to other experiences that involve the work of the preceptor and the integration between residents from different areas of health.

The SIGs (Special Interest Group) of Medical Education aims to promote interaction and updating among health educators, using information technologies, stimulating and supporting research in medical education, in the context of teaching-learning , mainly by integrating teaching with research and extension in the SUS.
