The Dental Journey of Bahiana (JOB), in its 11th edition, which took place on May 17th and 18th, at the Cabula Academic Unit, innovates and expands its dimension by counting on a foreign researcher as a lecturer. Other news attracted dentistry professionals and students from Bahiana and other universities, such as the blog and the realization of the Pre-Joba, on April 26, when the theme was discussed Anatomy and Pharmacology Applied in Intraoral Anesthetic Procedures.

“In this 11th JOBA of more than a decade of experience, what we have is the strengthening of the scientific production presented, which encourages both our students and the professors who guide them. It is the quality of this production that is recognized here today. Our professors are always present at national and international scientific events and, now, the Bahiana it has its own international scientific event”, comments Professor Dr. Urbino Tunes, coordinator of the Dentistry course.

Another aspect highlighted by the coordinator is the possibility of maturing in the research process. “All this generates, in the student, this great desire to participate in JOBA, including presenting course completion papers (TCC) as an opportunity for didactic training. This all matures our students”.

The opening was attended by the director of Bahiana, Prof. Dr. Maria Luisa Soliani, professors and students of the School and other Dentistry courses in Salvador. There was also the participation of the Choir from Bahiana who presented himself welcoming those present, in addition to the performance of national anthems of Brazil and Peru, the country of researcher Leopoldo Meneses Rivadeneira, special guest, professor at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Hereida and specialist surgeon in Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology. He taught the Alveolar Trauma course on the afternoon of Thursday, May 17th.

For its full success, JOBA had the tireless coordination of professor Dr. Blanca Torres León. “We had weekly meetings and had the participation of 33 students and seven professors who worked in groups. The students suggested the areas they would like to be covered with lectures, short courses, workshops and Hands-on  and the coordination worked to make these demands viable. We made a point of covering all areas”.

Following a tradition, JOBA always honors a teacher from Bahiana as recognition for the work of teaching, research and relationship with students. In its 11th edition, the Jornada highlighted Professor Sandro Bittencurt, who even coordinated the 9th Joba, in 2010.

The integration between the students who participated in the commission, those enrolled and the speakers was the focus of the work of the coordinator of the student body, the 10th semester student, Victor Barbosa Araújo. “In addition to all our programming, we had, in parallel with JOBA, the 1st Meeting of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology at Bahiana, in which we can break a prejudice and spread the role of the dentist in diagnosis. As for the large participation of students from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), Victor highlights the partnership, "we do not have UFBA as a competitor, but as a partner because JOBA is the opportunity for us to scientifically come together to discuss issues related to dentistry" .

JOBA Community
In addition to the scientific program, JOBA Comunidade was held once again, the social responsibility arm of the journey which, this year, received classes from the 1st to 5th grades of elementary school at Colégio Roberto Santos. The activities were developed and coordinated by the Bahia Academic League of Oral Health Education, Labesb. “Labesb was created by the initiative of Professor Antônio Pita for students interested in dealing with teaching oral health. Education towards prevention”, explains the 9th semester student of Dentistry and member of the League, Maísa Mendes.

The special program to welcome the children included the showing of an educational film, games and educational activities such as brushing and correct use of dental floss.

JOBA in numbers
This year, JOBA received 508 participants from the Bahiana and other courses in Salvador. 169 scientific papers were presented in the categories Scientific Forum – Completed Work, Scientific Forum – Project, Clinical Forum, Free Theme, Panel and Demonstration Table. Four courses, eight conferences, four Hands-On and a round table were also held.
