Ending the year with the certainty that you are better prepared for your professional future is more than a dream for a group of 12 teenagers, aged 14 to 19, from the Rio Amazonas community, in Cabula. On December 9th, they received the certificate for participation in the Portuguese language and computer course, held by Bahianathrough the Project Develop, a social responsibility initiative of the institution. The ceremony took place at the Cabula Academic Unit.

“Our objective was to build skills linked to new information and communication technologies”, explains Maria Antonieta Araújo, Psychology course professor, who coordinates the Projeto Desenvolvimento and Programa Candeal, to which the young people are also linked. According to her, in order to develop the course program, the students had issues related to health and citizenship as their theme. The classes took place from September 23rd to December 5th, in the computer lab of the Cabula Academic Unit.

To mobilize the community, the project had the support of Mrs. Maria de Lourdes Soares Brandão and her husband, Darciro Mota. “It is very gratifying to participate in a project like this. It is very important for our neighborhood, for the young people and for everyone else in the community”, comments D. Maria de Lourdes, who has been head of the local Pastoral da Criança for eight years.

Among the contents studied, all students highlighted the learning of the Portuguese language and the experience with internet access. “What I enjoyed the most was the Portuguese class, which helped me a lot at school”, says student Lucas Pereira da Silva.

“I didn't know anything about computers, so it was very good”, the comment is from teenager Yslane Mota Nascimento Santos, who also highlighted the study of Portuguese as a great help in school activities.

For student Letícia Jesus dos Santos, who intends to be a lawyer, one of the highlights was group learning. “I thought the coexistence part was important, we learned from our colleagues. Both the Portuguese and the computer part helped a lot at school”.

In addition to them, students Ana Carolina dos Anjos Nascimento, Maria Santos Silva and Carlos Alexandre Souza Pereira also received certificates. The ceremony was also attended by the professor of the Biomedicine course, Noilton Jorge Dias.
