Medicine Course - New ways of teaching and evaluating

 New teaching methodologies determine the need for a restructuring in the way of evaluating. The new curriculum rules in the School's Medicine course Bahiana, based on the Course Curriculum Guidelines, guided these changes, which implies the modernization of their evaluation criteria. Although adjustments are being made progressively, in recent years, constant improvements have been made, as well as the training of teachers. As part of this process, a new structured practical test model will be implemented at various points in the course.

On October 29, medicine students in the 3rd year, students of the Semiology discipline, will carry out a practical assessment that includes activities with the use of image, video, audio and simulations of appointments. For this, the course professors, linked to the subject assessed, underwent training using the Virtual Learning Environment, during this month of October, in order to become qualified in the OSCE Model (Objective Structured Clinical Examination). The method allows the assessment of cognitive, attitudinal and skills domains, expanding the possibilities for assessment and learning.

During the training, teachers received instructions on how to build the tests and how to assess students according to criteria of validity, accuracy and sensitivity, objectivity, reliability and feasibility. The use of technological resources by students will also be observed.

After the evaluation this Saturday, another group of professors from the Medicine course will be trained in order to promote a practical test for the 5th year, that is, a preparatory test for the internship carried out in the last two years of graduation. According to the coordinator of the Medicine course, Prof. Dr. Marta Menezes, "this test is similar to those applied in the Medical Residency selections of the main medical universities in Brazil, therefore, it also has a training character for these competitions" . The practical exam for the 5th year of Medicine will be held on December 17th.
