Understand the patient beyond his symptoms, his illness. Learn to interpret it also by your lifestyle, social condition, family background. The physician, in the contemporary world, is no longer that professional dedicated only to curing illnesses. Patients gained a more complex view of themselves and medical professionals had to learn to see beyond physical signs.

Technological advances and the means of communication have made patients more demanding, informed and less insecure. But nothing replaces the doctor, whether for the cure of illnesses or for the promotion of preventive habits, aiming at a better quality of life. Attentive to these transformations, physicians, in contemporary times, have been working on their humanist side, becoming new advisers and “friends” of their patients.

Thus, the Bahiana joyfully congratulates doctors and female doctors on their tireless dedication this October 18th.

Why October 18th?

October 18th is considered doctor's day in many countries, such as Brazil, Portugal, France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Poland, England, Argentina, Canada and the United States. This date was chosen because it is the day consecrated to Luke, the "beloved physician", according to the apostle Paul. Lucas would have studied medicine in Antioch, in addition to being a painter, musician and historian, being one of the most intellectual disciples of Christ. The tradition of having Luke as the patron of physicians began around the XNUMXth century.
