Saturday

“Being here was really good. Because, despite not being doctors yet, the students provided very important information and knowledge is never too much”. This was the declaration of D. Zildete dos Santos, 63, a member of the elderly group from the Urban Social Center of the Northeast of Amaralina, who visited the Mostra on Saturday. She had just attended the lecture on the proper use of medication that was presented by the Academic League of Clinical Emergencies.

The group also attended lectures on falls and dizziness, presented by the Academic League of Neurosurgery of Bahia. Stroke, hypertension and diabetes were some of the topics presented by the Academic League of Applied Neurosciences.

The program continued at Praça dos Borboleguins, where the group continued to attend small lectures and visits such as measuring blood pressure and blood glucose, visual acuity, measuring respiratory capacity, among others.

According to the 4th year of Medicine student, Tiago Alves, dealing with elderly patients was not new. “We already have experience in dealing with different ages, as we develop activities during the course, in Public Health disciplines. So I don't feel like a stranger in contact with them. I am not seen as a doctor on the pedestal. I feel at their level, dealing as an equal”.

Very excited and happy, D. Vivi Honorato, 63, says: “This is the first time I've been here and I've seen, from the treatment we're having with the students, that they're really making an effort. They are not here to be. They know what they want and give us security”.
