I Researchers Forum of Bahiana

Share

Have you ever imagined that scientific research carried out in a country can determine its wealth? Well, according to the Postgraduate, Research and Extension coordinator at Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, Dr. Kátia Sá, “higher education institutions have an obligation to train researchers - masters and doctors - and advance in scientific production, which has a positive correlation with the increase in GDP, that is, the more doctors a country has, the greater its wealth”.

In this spirit, the Postgraduate, Research and Extension coordination held, on September 29, the I Forum of Researchers of Bahiana which took place at the Cabula Academic Unit. In addition to researchers linked to the School's research groups, the Forum was attended by representatives of scientific institutions, such as the Foundation for Research Support of the State of Bahia (FAPESB), National Service for Industrial Learning (SENAI), Federal University da Bahia (UFBA), Federal University of Reconcavo da Bahia (URFB), in addition to the Departments of Education and Health of the State of Bahia.

"I hope that we can add more knowledge and technique and, with these events, build a partnership relationship so that we can develop research in the Bahiana and in Bahia”, declared Handerson Jorge Dourado Leite, director of Science, Innovation and Technology (Ditec), of the State Health Department (Sesab), who participated in the opening table of the event with the director of Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luisa Soliani and the Postgraduate, Research and Extension coordinator at Bahiana, Dr. Kátia Sá.

Marcelo Napoli, director of Research, Creation and Innovation at UFBA, was also present at the table, “the event is represented in more than 50% by research groups. The idea of groups, since the beginning of the CNPq, has not yet gone far and researchers continue to act alone, in isolation. When I see a university like this presenting its research centers, through its groups, it is because it is doing well”.

to the director of Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luisa Soliani, the event reflects an old dream of Bahiana, “We are open to all partnerships so that research can be developed in our country. We have had, in 60 years, very important researches”.

Also present at the opening were the scientific director of the Research Support Foundation of Bahia (FAPESB), Eduardo Boely, who spoke about support for research in private institutions, as well as Alex Alisson, representative of SENAI/Cimatec, Ronaldo Oliveira, coordinator of Education Graduate Studies at UFBA and Ana Cristina Firmino, Dean of Research and Graduate Studies at UFRB.

The program included the presentation of Panels and, throughout the day, research groups linked to the Graduate Program at Bahiana presented their lines of research and a brief report of results.

According to Kátia Sá, “through this exchange of experiences and knowledge of research projects in development, research lines and available infrastructure, we intend to strengthen partnerships between the research groups of the Bahiana among themselves and with other teaching and research institutions in the state of Bahia”.

The idea of the Forum meets the directives of the Ministries of Science and Technology and of Education that determine that higher education institutions have the responsibility to produce scientific knowledge, disseminate it in the research media, in the productive sectors and in society. “In this way, universities fulfill both the role of training professionals for the market and of contributing to the sustainable development of Brazilian society”, concludes the researcher.
