Only in April, registrations for the specialization course in Assistive Technologies are still open
Aimed at health professionals, engineers, architects, product designers, psychologists, social workers and educators, the specialization in Assistive Technology aims to update professionals from different areas, in knowledge, assessment, prescription and research in the area, aiming to promote the autonomy, independence and quality of life of people with disabilities.
According to the Technical Assistance Committee, linked to the Secretariat of Human Rights of the Presidency of the Republic, Assistive Technology is the “area of knowledge with an interdisciplinary characteristic that encompasses products, resources, methodologies, strategies, practices and services that aim to promote functionality related to the activity and participation of people with disabilities, disabilities or reduced mobility, aiming at their autonomy, independence, quality of life and social inclusion”. In other words, it is the segment that carries out studies for the adequacy of professional, domestic and social environments in order to enable the disabled person's independence and autonomy to carry out functional activities, whether through architectural, educational and social projects, or through the use of special objects.
Assistive Technology Resources and Services
Among the Resources, can be found, from simple and known objects such as canes, crutches, wheelchairs and hearing aids, to more sophisticated resources such as computers, special software and hardware, alternative communication equipment, visual aids, and many others that they can even be customized.
Services are provided by properly trained professionals who help individuals choose and adapt to the resource to be used. Among them, there are health professionals such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists and physicians. Other areas are also involved in assistance work, bringing together professionals such as designers, engineers, architects, educators, social workers, etc.
