Candeal Program students visit community in Cabula

The expansion of the Candeal Program is going from strength to strength! On March 10, the first business day after this year's carnival, students from Bahiana that participate in the initiative, in partnership with Embasa, carried out a field visit to the Loteamento Amazonas community, in Cabula. Welcomed by the community leader, Eriosvaldo França, the group was able to recognize and identify the main demands, in addition to being introduced to the residents. The visit was attended by the coordinator of the Candeal Program and professor of the Psychology course at Bahiana, Maria Antonieta Araújo and Biomedicine professors Léa Ferreira and Noilton Jorge Dias.

A Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública it has been carrying out, since 2006, a social action aimed at the community. This is a health education work, carried out by teams that address various topics related to self-care and care for the environment. Students participate in the initiative as an academic or curricular extension activity, within the curricular components of Community Health. They are students of Biomedicine, Dentistry, Medicine, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Nursing and Psychology.

Students are divided into work teams aimed at different focuses in the health area: quality of life, women's health, the elderly, adolescents, children, smokers, diabetics and hypertensive patients, pregnant women, the environment and work.

All activities are open to the public and carried out free of charge in several places in the Sanitary District of Brotas and Cabula/Beiru.
