Opened on July 05, 2010, the Anti-Zone Program (PEACE) is another innovative action offered to society by the Teaching-Assistential Outpatient Clinic of Bahiana (ADAB), through the Unified Health System. The service is coordinated by its creator, the otolaryngologist Dr. Clarice Saba, a national reference in the subject.

BUZZ

Tinnitus is the perception of sounds in the absence of a physical sound source. It's not a disease, it's a symptom.

It has several causes such as partial hearing loss, anatomical and myofunctional issues of the face and dental arch, posture, changes in triglyceride levels, prediabetes, high consumption of caffeine and sugars, among other factors. For this reason, PAZ offers multidisciplinary care in which the otorhinolaryngologist, after initial assessment and laboratory, imaging and audiological assessment, forwards the patient to the various specialties that may be necessary, such as: internal medicine, gastroenterology, dentist and orthodontist, nutritionist, psychology, endocrinology, cardiology, and physical therapist.

It is estimated that 17% of the world population have tinnitus. This symptom, now considered to be curable, brings disturbances to the population such as mood changes, worsening of pathologies such as hypertension and diabetes, irritability, depression, and may even lead to suicide.

Due to the strong association with several comorbidities (coexistence of disorders or diseases), tinnitus can serve as a warning sign in the decompensation of metabolic diseases with a great impact on the population, such as hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypo or hyperthyroidism, etc.

Tinnitus also has great repercussions on human communication, especially in patients with presbycusis (hearing loss related to aging), hearing loss and/or people with occupational hearing diseases.

Tinnitus treatment is essential to improve the population's quality of life. Due to the multiplicity of causes, a multidisciplinary action is necessary, which includes assessment and, when necessary, treatment in internal medicine, psychology, physiotherapy, radiology, occupational therapy, dentistry, etc., corroborating what was said above.
