Citizenship Games Project

More than 120 children and teenagers were assisted by teachers and students from the Bahiana and professionals from the Teaching-Care Clinic of the Bahiana (ADAB), in a citizenship and health promotion action, which took place on November 20, at the Centro Social Urbano de Castelo Branco.

The initiative integrates the Citizenship Games Project do Ronaldinho Gaucho Institute which, in Salvador, has a partnership with Bahiana and the State Secretariat for Social Development and Combating Poverty. The project also works in the Urban Social Centers of the Northeast of Amaralina, Mussurunga and Pernambués and already serves around 1.300 children and teenagers aged between 09 and 17 years. They participate in daily sports activities, in addition to getting closer to notions of citizenship and human rights.

At the Castelo Branco task force, the team from Bahiana performed interdisciplinary health care: anamnesis, physical and clinical examinations, electrocardiogram and vaccination. Among those present were the coordinator of the Medicine course, Prof. Dr. Marta Menezes, the ADAB cardiologist, Dr. Luis Agnaldo and the professor of the Medicine course, Maria Cristina Santana.

“We were contacted by the Ronaldinho Gaúcho Institute to carry out physical assessment exams to confirm the children's aptitude for sporting activities. The idea is to provide comprehensive and continuous care, ensuring the quality of life for children", declares the vice-coordinator of Postgraduate Studies, Research and Extension of the Bahiana, Ana Carolina Garcia, informing that the School will also participate in joint efforts in other Urban Social Centers, in 2011.
