Lecture: Québec, land of opportunities

Discover a new lifestyle thousands of kilometers from Salvador. Can different climate, language, culture and population help individual growth and maturation? This was the theme of the meeting that brought together students, professors and employees of the Bahiana, at the Cabula Academic Unit, on November 10th. The initiative comes from the Québec Immigration Office, headquartered in São Paulo and had its Public Relations advisor, Gilles Mascle, as a speaker.

The Québec Immigration program - Canadian province - selects young adults, educated, with professional experience who speak French or are willing to learn the language. Among the topics covered on the day, the immigration process and the search for a job stood out. Tips on Québec society and advice on how to settle immigrants were also references at the meeting.

With the second highest GDP in Canada, Québec is looking for qualified young professionals to supply the needy domestic labor market. The government foresees the creation of 230 thousand new job vacancies in the next years.

Among the requirements for obtaining a permanent resident visa are a technical or university degree, professional experience, knowledge of French, the official language of Québec, or willingness to learn it before immigrating, and a preferred age of up to 35 years. The Québec government does not guarantee employment, but it offers all the necessary support to immigrants and their families, including free French language improvement classes.
