Between the 27th and 30th of October, a delegation of teachers and educators from the Bahiana participated in the activities of the 48th Brazilian Congress of Medical Education - COBEM, which this year was held at the Centro de Convenções de Goiânia (GO). An initiative of the Brazilian Association of Medical Education, the meeting has as its central theme “A School for the SUS: The place of Medical Education in the Brazilian Health System”.

The main objective of COBEM 2010 was to discuss both specific aspects of medical education and public health, giving greater attention to the teaching-service partnership through scenarios offered by municipal and state health departments.

“As manager of the Physiotherapy Course, it was important to participate for several reasons, which I highlight is knowing closely the new trends in health education that are not restricted to Medicine courses and that can and should be extended to other courses; participate in a discussion about multidisciplinary integration from academic training and confirm that both the Physiotherapy course and all other courses in the Bahiana they are quite advanced in the discussion and implementation of innovative pedagogical practices”, highlights professor and coordinator Roseny Ferreira.

Regarding the theme of the meeting, she emphasizes that “the SUS has ALWAYS been discussed and experienced in the Physiotherapy course at Bahiana  because all internships and professionalizing practices take place in the public network through the hospitals and associated health centers”.

For Nazaré Academic Unit's pedagogical supervisor, Narciso Paiva, “having the opportunity to participate in the Brazilian Congress of Medical Education - COBEM/2010, as a pedagogue working in a medical course, is a gratifying and enriching experience”. During the event, Narciso and the pedagogical supervision group from Bahiana participated in a meeting that brought together educators who work in medical schools. "A meeting of this nature that promotes a panel on the pedagogue in medical education scenarios, leaves us convinced that our performance is on the right path, without losing sight of the challenges and perspectives that lie ahead."
