Share

The XVII Occupational Therapy Week of Bahiana, held on October 26 and 27 at the Academic Unit Brotas, brought together students from the School, professionals, alumni and students from other universities in Salvador around discussions on advances and current challenges of Occupational Therapy in the segment of attention to children and adolescents. The meeting also took into account the multiprofessional nature of health care.

According to the professor of the Occupational Therapy course and one of the organizers of the event, Prof. Andréa Garboggini, “care for children and adolescents includes the new curricular matrix that is being worked on by students in the 4th semester. In addition, the theme proposes a great diversity of speeches”. She explains that the meeting also aims to prioritize the multidisciplinary aspect. The organizing committee also had the participation of Prof. Francesca Magalhães.

Agenda

The first activity took place on October 26, at 10:08 am, with the workshop Sensory Integration Therapy: Principles and Practice, given by occupational therapist Ana Marta Vieira Ponte Mello. In the afternoon shift, it was TO Carina Marques Vieira's turn to talk about children in the workshop Humanized Care for Low Birth Weight Newborns: Kangaroo Method. Later, the former students of the Bahiana, together with the participants of the journey gathered at a cocktail party celebrating the III Meeting of Graduates from TO, which celebrated the 10th anniversary of the graduation of the 2000 class.

The morning of October 27th work began with the lecture Attention to Maternal and Child Health in the Family Health Program (PSF): Limits and possibilities for the prevention of disabilities in childhood, theme of the master's thesis by the specialist in Health at Family and Master in Public Health, Carina Pimentel. According to her, "the monitoring of the mother, from prenatal care to one year of the baby's life, must be done in a systematic and comprehensive manner, focusing on the prevention of aggravation or the occurrence of disability". Next, a team from APAE participated in the roundtable Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities: reports of practices by APAE Salvador.

Exploration of Child Labor on Stage was the name of the documentary presented by the 4th semester students of Occupational Therapy at Bahiana. “We are studying children, so we decided to do this topic, as it is very pertinent and worrying, especially in Brazil”, explains student Vanessa Fontanelli.

After the video, a roundtable was formed, with the participation of the health biologist, who participated in the documentary, Martha Itaparica, and the TO teachers Ana Márcia Nascimento and Tiza Mendes. On the occasion, the reasons for the exploitation of child labor were evaluated by professionals who were mediated by student Thalita Madeira. According to Martha Itaparica, child labor is a reflection of the child's family situation and “another important issue is that it takes away from this child the possibility of fully experiencing all stages of human development”.

Throughout the day, several roundtables were held that addressed the following topics: Interdisciplinary Care for Children and Adolescents at IBR; Interdisciplinary Care for Children and Adolescents with Cancer; Candeal Program: experience report with groups of adolescents in the community; The Burned Child and Occupational Therapy: An Integral and Playful Relationship; The Perspective on Children and Adolescents in Primary Care: experience reports; and Benefits of Interdisciplinary Assistance in Child and Adolescent Care.
