Since Friday, October 1st, the Bahiana joined the Salvador Metropolitan Network - REMITTANCE, conceived by the Ministry of Science and Technology and coordinated by the National Research Network – RNTRNP, through the Community Education and Research Networks – Redecomep project, which proposes the installation of high-speed networks for several cities in the country, with a focus on academic and of research. This sharing allows the institution to qualify with RNP to participate in the Internet 2 Transit system.

REMESSA is the result of a partnership between the Federal University of Bahia, the Municipality of Salvador and the State and Federal governments, and counts on the participation of higher education institutions, research centers and hospitals. It works via internet 2 and uses the latest technology with fiber optic cables and equipment that enable high-speed communication. Any structure necessary for the integration of the internal network of the Bahiana with REMESSA has already been implemented and installed in the three academic units of the School, since last week.

The technology ensures that participating institutions can share information more quickly and use advanced communication tools, enabling the sharing of scientific production and joint project development, both nationally and internationally. Possible applications include video conferencing and telephone (voice) traffic.

In addition to Salvador, the cities of Belém, Vitória, Manaus, Florianópolis, Brasília, Natal, São Paulo, Fortaleza, Macapá, Goiânia and Campina Grande are already part of the National Research Network, via projects similar to REMESSA.

According to the Postgraduate, Research and Extension coordinator at Bahiana, Prof. Káta Sá, the ticket of Bahiana in this Network "puts us equivalent to the main research institutions in the country, enabling the School to participate in joint work with important institutions throughout the country".
