Course trains caregivers of elderly people with dementia

Community agents, family members and caregivers of the elderly in general participated in the Academic Unit Brotas, of training for the care of elderly people with dementia. The initiative was coordinated by the professor of the Occupational Therapy course, Maria Tereza Baraúna da Costa, and promoted by the Bahiana in partnership with the State Health Department, through the State Reference Center for Health Care for the Elderly – CREASI.

The program included activities that promote the facilitation of communication, food, spatial/temporal orientation and mobility. Other issues discussed were violence against the elderly, independence and autonomy, and weakness. The course lasted three days and was attended by 40 people.
