A Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública was highlighted in the 50+, Ethnic-Racial and Women categories, in the GPTW Brasil 2024 Diversity Ranking, whose awards ceremony was held on April 10, in São Paulo. The scores take into account employee evaluations and the diversity and inclusion indexes presented by companies. The institution was represented by the manager of the Strategic Management of People and Learning (GEPAP), Telma Bastos.

According to Telma, the Bahiana has been implementing DE&I actions for some time, this being an organic behavior of the institution that, lately, has started to measure and monitor its actions to better evaluate their impacts and work in a more systemic and organized way. “This is how the results naturally appear, as is the case with these recognitions in the Brasil Diversidade GPTW 2024 awards", she highlights. Among other awards and certificates in diversity, she highlights the Ethnic-Racial and LGBT+ Diversity seal, granted by the Municipal Department of Reparation ( SEMUR). “Promoting diversity, equity and inclusion is not expensive. But the impact that this environment makes possible is priceless: well-being, people's health, engagement, a sense of justice and, consequently, productivity", points out Telma.

She further explains that the process of developing DE&I actions in Bahiana has been matured over time, culminating in the formation of an interprofessional committee with the objective of systematizing and guiding the actions already developed both by people and learning management (HR) and in other areas of teaching, research and extension. This committee has a regiment and several actions have already been implemented as a diagnosis, based on the mapping of actions and a new census, construction of the materiality matrix, among others. Telma highlights the creation of affinity groups to support the committee in ethnic-racial and LGBT+ actions. In relation to people 50+ (over 50 years of age), the Bahiana presents a picture with 43% of people 45+ and an average of 8% of admissions/year 50+. Regarding the female presence in Bahiana, the institution has 60% of women on its staff, 66% of whom are employees in leadership positions.
