With the theme “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I), in Health Training”, new students of undergraduate courses at the Bahiana were welcomed last Friday (01/03), through a live broadcast on the institution's official YouTube channel. The opening featured the presentation of the video clip “Inovação e Tradição”, by former collaborators of Bahiana André Gomes and Paulo Gomes – MCs B1 and B2 and with the poetic performance of the Psychology student, Gabriel Nabuco. The event was mediated by the coordinators of People Development, Prof. Luiza Ribeiro, and the Psychopedagogical Care Center (NAPP), Angélica Mendes.
To celebrate the moment, a round table on DE&I was held with professors Carle Porcino, a trans woman, and Julie Tupinambá, an indigenous woman, and with former student and psychologist Millen Carvalho. “Talking about diversity is making an urgent call for a deconstruction of each one of us. Initially, we need to see where we are, who we are, which ethnic and racial group we are part of”, said Prof. Julie Tupinambá.
According to Angélica Mendes, the choice of theme for the reception of new students at Bahiana is made based on what has been discussed in society. "A Bahiana has already been developing DE&I actions for a few years, reaching maturity with the launch of a diversity committee that will implement policies within the institution, starting in March, and which must count on the participation of everyone: employees, teachers, students and suppliers.” For Luiza Ribeiro, the initiative reaffirms the values and mission of Bahiana. “Our main purpose is to make the Bahiana be an institution recognized, internally and externally, as one that truly practices care for all people. And diversity, equity and inclusion refers to this”, points out the People Development coordinator.
