Health professionals who carry out research and actions to combat HTLV in Pará made a technical visit, on May 31, to the HTLV/Neurosciences Center of Bahiana, reference in research and treatment of the disease. Participating in the visit were Lorena Caldas and Cíntia Aben-Athar, doctor and nurse, both from the care service for people living with HTLV at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), and the director of Health Surveillance in the municipality of Castanhal (PA), Herlly Eleres. In addition to them, Carla Bressy, technical reference in HTLV in the Board of Epidemiological Surveillance of Bahia.
The delegation was welcomed by the coordinator of the HTLV/Neurosciences Center of Bahiana, Dr. Bernardo Galvão, accompanied by teachers Aidê Nunes and Thessika Hialla. On the occasion, visitors learned a little about the history of the HTLV Center, its structure, the integrated care management flowchart, and were able to understand the importance of student involvement through Extension Projects, in addition to the relevance of the partnership with the HTLV Association for the success of the unit's activities.
Professor Aidê Nunes also presented the Mentors of Health Extension Project, an experience of the University of British Columbia-UBC/Canada in Bahiana, having as a reference the HTLV Center, through which 15 students of Nursing, Physiotherapy, Psychology and Medicine experience experiences coordinated by citizens with HTLV, enrolled in our Center. “For us, sharing knowledge and experiences is synonymous with adding. We all win and, above all, the person living with HTLV”, declared Prof. Aidê Nunes.
