The former medical student and currently sponsored by Bahiana, René Pereira, has just won a place in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. The feat came after his participation as the only Brazilian in the 2019 Senior Rowing World Championship, which took place in the city of Linz, Austria.

In the knockout heat, Renê took 1st place, 20 seconds ahead of second place, qualifying for the Semifinal. With the 2nd position in the Semifinal, Renê competed in the Final, ending his participation with the 5th place and guaranteeing a place in Tokyo. The seven best placed in the category ranking won the spot. The Bahia rower had already won, this year, the silver medal in the category in the 3rd Stage of the Rowing World Cup, in July.

"It is indescribable to live with the ups and downs of sport and the limits of the body in high performance sports. I have learned, in a very unique way, to deal with uncertainties, pressure and countless other feelings that, for sure, will be useful to me for life," he declared on his Instagram profile.

Renê says that he feels secure in relation to his physical fitness and that he only needs to improve some technical aspects of his sports performance. He is now preparing for the Brazilian Para-remo Championship that takes place at the end of the year.
