Fourth edition of the Scientific Initiation Seminar is promoted by Bahiana

The event was attended by students, professors and researchers.

A night of teaching and exchange of experiences. So was the IV Scientific Initiation Seminar held on August 15, at Campus Brotas da Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública. The event aimed to address the importance of Scientific Initiation (CI) for the academic life of university students and future health professionals.

The opening of the meeting was carried out by Dr. Atson Fernandes, Dean of Research, Innovation and Graduate Studies Stricto Sensu of Bahiana, who emphasized how the institution values ​​research as a basis for training its students: “We want to awaken among students involved or not in Scientific Initiation the desire to research more and develop their scientific capacity. We are not in this environment just to transmit knowledge. The nature of higher education is the pursuit of knowledge and we want to encourage our entire academic community to participate in IC”.

      
Dr. Carolina Aguiar, professor of the Psychology course at Bahiana, spoke about the role of the advisor in the formation of CI: “The advisor needs to be aware that he is a reference in this research process and needs to have ethical actions and provide and appreciate the use of a teaching methodology focused on the growth of the student researcher ”.

The program also included a discussion of the theme “What is the importance of Scientific Initiation?”, in which Dr. Théssika Araújo, professor of Biomedicine at Bahiana, explained how the research expands knowledge, demystifies concepts and theories, stimulates reasoning and critical thinking and helps in interpersonal and professional relationships.
      
The end of the evening was held with a “golden key” by Italo Gabriel Santos, a high school student at the Youth Center for Science and Culture, who shared his experience as a participant in the Jr. Scientific Initiation Program Bahiana, a project with the objective of promoting research among public school students. “I've been a member of this program for two years and, in that time, I acquired knowledge in the area of ​​health and science and improved a lot as a student and researcher. I improved in my oratory, in my grades at school and I am grateful for my time at IC and for the teachers who guided me”, he expressed emotionally.

Several undergraduates from Bahiana were present at the IV Seminar on Scientific Initiation. Medical student Oziemile Santos explained how the event was a moment of learning: “Being here today allowed me to see outside the box and see how important research is for our academic and professional trajectory”.
