Freshmen and academics meet at Novos da Bahiana 2019.2

Event brought the theme "People for peace"

"Let's think together about how we can be the change we want to see in the world." This was the focus of the second edition of “Novos da Bahiana” of 2019, which took place last Friday, July 26, at Campus Cabula da Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, with the purpose of welcoming the freshmen of this semester.

The opening of the event included the presentation of the choir Canta Bahiana, composed of students, parents and employees of the institution who presented songs with the theme of love for others to the public, demonstrating, in practice, the objective of Bahiana of being an institution that promotes a differentiated educational space.

The course coordinators of the Bahiana are present to welcome new students. Luciana Billitário (Physiotherapy), Geraldo Argolo (Biomedicine), Simone Passos (Nursing), Sylvia Barreto (Psychology), Clárcson Plácido (Physical Education), Urbino Tunes (Dentistry), Ana Verônica Mascarenhas (Medicine) and Luciana Oliveira (Common Nucleus) gave motivational and welcome speeches to students.

Angélica Mendes, coordinator of the Psychopedagogical Care Center (NAPP), explained how the theme chosen to welcome freshmen is significant. “The violence in the world has scared us a lot, so bringing a reflection on the importance of peace in society is extremely important. We chose this theme because we believe in the culture of peace and we feel the need to talk about it and to promote a welcoming with this differential for our students”.

The morning of “News from Bahiana” was attended by Feizi Milani, professor at Bahiana and founder of the National Institute of Education for Peace and Rights

Humans (INPAZ) and Jamira Muniz, coordinator of the Centro Cultural Alagados. Speakers addressed interpersonal peace, well-being, quality of life and how these factors contribute to the formation of the individual as a social being.

Jamira Muniz expressed how important it is to bring the discussion of social issues to an educational environment such as Bahiana. "This type of debate adds a lot for the health professional, because, from a broad and conscious perspective of what society is, people can help transform lives."

Medicine freshman Cláudio Henrique Cavalcanti shared his feeling of gratitude for having been welcomed by the Bahiana in such a welcoming way. “It was a very interesting meeting, as we had contact with diverse experiences and were well received by the coordinators and members of the institution”.

Lara Landulfo, who also enrolled in Medicine, was happy with her first contact with the university. “It's wonderful to see that the Bahiana it's a place where people say they have a difference and in practice, in fact, that happens. This morning was an example of that. An enchanting moment”.
