Medical students participate in the Maternal Mortality Seminar of the State of Bahia

Students in the 3rd semester of the Medicine course, who attend classes in the Women's Health Module of the Public Health III component, participated in the Maternal Mortality Seminar of the State of Bahia, an initiative of the Public Ministry of the State of Bahia that took place on the day May 20, in the auditorium of the MP's headquarters, in the Administrative Center of Bahia.

     

Held through the Center for Operational Support for the Defense of Health (Cesau) and the Center for Studies and Functional Improvement (Ceaf), of the MPBA, the event addressed topics such as "Maternal Death and Violence Against Women", taught by Julieta Palmeira , secretary of Policies for Women, and by Greice Maria de Souza Menezes, from the UFBA Collective Health Institute (ISC), and mediated by the representative of the State Committee for the Study of Maternal Mortality in Bahia (CEEMM), Márcia Silveira. The program also included lectures on “Access to the System for Identification of Maternal Death” and “Panorama of Maternal Death”, as well as presentations on cases of maternal death due to hemorrhage and hypertension.

"The experience was very rich for the students, as curiosity was aroused about the existing difficulties in combating maternal mortality, which are faced with the actions and health services of the National Policy for Comprehensive Attention to Women's Health (PNAISM), theme focus of study of the curricular component", reports the professor of the Women's Health Module, Sara dos Santos Rocha. According to her, "leading students to the seminar had the objective of expanding knowledge about the situation of maternal mortality in the state of Bahia, as well as allowing them to experience the possible articulations to improve this situation, getting to know the social actors involved in this process".
