Bahiana promotes third online lecture on Health Informatics

“Impacts of Information Technology on patient safety”. This is the theme of the third online meeting of the lecture cycle on Health Informatics promoted by the Distance Learning Nucleus (NEAD) of the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública. The speaker is biomedical Luiz Virgínio Jr., member of the Education Board of the Brazilian Society of Health Informatics (SBIS). The lecture takes place one day May 7 at 20 pm and will be transmitted in a virtual room informed to subscribers by e-mail. Spaces are limited and 15 of them will be available for those who wish to watch the broadcast of the lecture on the BAHIANA (at the Educational Technologies Development Center - CEDETE). The focus of the event is to understand the benefits and harms of using Electronic Patient Records (PEP). In this lecture, Luiz Virginio Jr. will talk about the main quality problems of a PEP that can put patient safety at risk. Issues will also be addressed, such as what are the main recommendations and initiatives to improve the quality of these systems.

Luiz Virgínio Jr. has a master's degree in Health Informatics from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), where he worked on the theme “The quality of electronic medical records and patient safety”. He acts as an auditor in the Electronic Health Record Systems Certification Process of the Brazilian Society of Health Informatics (SBIS), in addition to being the author and editor of manuals for this same process. He is a consultant at FOLKS company, where he works mainly on preparing hospitals for EMRAM-HIMSS certification. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in Health Informatics at the Instituto de Computação da Unicamp.
