“To sleep well is to age with health”. This was the theme adopted by the American Academy of Medicine in 2019 to celebrate World Sleep Week. The event took place between March 9th and 17th, and the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública carried out activities in the cities of Salvador, Vitória da Conquista, Irecê, Feira de Santana, Santo Antônio de Jesus and Alagoinhas, under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Cristina Salles. The focus of this year's meetings was to draw attention to the importance of sleep in the proper functioning of the body.

The opening of the World Sleep Week in Bahia took place on the Campus Brotas da Bahiana, with a seminar on the central theme of the event, aimed at professionals and academics from various areas of health, such as medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy and speech therapy, in addition to those involved with sleep disorders.

The activities of cities in the interior of Bahia aimed to serve the elderly population. Medical students from Bahiana participated by applying about 1.500 questionnaires, in order to clarify doubts about the quality and quantity of hours of sleep of each participant in the event.

During World Sleep Week, there were discussions about how people with compromised quality and quantity of sleep are more likely to develop diseases such as obesity and diabetes. THE Bahiana participates in this world event for three years.
