“Inter-institutional partnerships in research: challenges and opportunities” was the theme of the talk show of the eighth edition of Researchers Forum, which took place on the morning of October 4th, during the XVIII Scientific and Cultural Exhibition (MCC). The forum began with a web conference by the Dean of Research and Innovation, Dr. Atson Fernandes, who is in Canada. The opening round table was attended by the dean of Bahiana, Professor Dr. Maria Luisa de Carvalho Soliani, the Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Education, Professor Maria de Lourdes de Freitas Gomes, the Coordinator of the Postgraduate Course in Health Technologies, Professor Marcus Almeida and the Professor and coordinator of the Nursing course, Simone Passos.

In her opening speech, professor Dr. Maria Luisa de Carvalho Soliani emphasized the importance of talking about democracy in the midst of the current Brazilian political scenario. Professor Maria de Lourdes de Freitas Gomes, who was, at the time, representing Professor Atson Fernandes, reported how the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública values and encourages research in the academic environment.

The talk show speakers at the VIII Forum of Researchers were professors Dr. Gesil Sampaio Amarante (UESC/FORTEC), who addressed the theme “New legal framework for science and technology and the impacts for teaching and research institutions” and Dr. Handerson Leite (IFBA/Innovation Hub of Salvador), who presented the theme “Paths to fundraising for research: opportunities and challenges in the interaction with the productive sector”. The talk show was mediated by Professor Dr. Luiz Eduardo Ritt.

Dr. Gesil Sampaio Amarante explained how investing in research is essential for the country's growth: “Investment in Science and Technology (S&T) has always been important. Every time Brazil has invested in S&T, it has brought positive results for itself. Unfortunately, today, we have problems that are more serious than in other times and with little prospect of a solution, because these investments are getting smaller”.

Dr. Handerson Leite pointed out how the synergy between the university and the professional environment must occur so that progress in scientific research is achieved: “The main reason for academia to work in synergy with the market is to seek to solve real problems. Understand the needs of companies, whether industrial or services, and find out what society needs. This will help a lot in the articulation between universities and the productive sectors”.

Awards
Following the tradition of previous years, the Researchers' Forum awarded prizes to academics and research groups that are highlighted in the institution. Dentistry professor Alena Ribeiro Medrado won the Researcher of the Year Award and thanked Bahiana and to coworkers.

Dr. Armênio Guimarães, who was widely applauded by the audience, expressed his gratitude: “This session was memorable, it made me remember the various actions that I participated in the Bahiana. The award gave me great satisfaction, as I have been working at the institution for many years and I was linked to the fundraising sector, so I was able to set up a research structure together”.

The Research Group of the Year Award, in the Team in Consolidation category, went to the Evidence-Based Medicine Group, by Professor Dr. Luís Cláudio Correia.
